Dear friends,
Namaste, and a very warm welcome to India!
Since 1978, the Aga Khan Foundation has partnered with rural and urban communities across India to improve the quality of life. Empowering communities and building their capacity to lead development interventions is fundamental to our approach across sectors and geographies.
This year, we’ve been able to pivot to respond to immediate needs created by the pandemic, including installing hand washing stations in public spaces to reduce the spread of COVID-19, helping farmers who have been hard hit by travel restrictions get their crops to market and receive payments through local banks, supporting women’s groups to stitch face masks to safeguard their communities and earn an income, and using digital platforms to support parents on early childhood development approaches.
Although the pandemic has revealed numerous challenges, we’re seeing how our long-term investments in increasing access to clean water and sanitation, and establishing vibrant institutions, have enabled communities to weather this crisis.
We are extremely grateful for your immense support. This has helped us continue our key programs and address immediate and emerging community needs.
My team and I thank you for all your support.

When Women Lead
Access to sanitation and clean water is one of India’s biggest development challenges, and it disproportionately affects women and marginalized communities. That led the Indian government to launch the Clean India Mission to improve access to sanitation facilities. See how AKF is contributing to this goal through the Aga Khan Development Network’s Comprehensive Sanitation Initiative, with women leading the way.
"Helping the less fortunate is a mandate, and the AKF fills it to the highest standards."
