Dear friends,
Karibu Kenya! I’m delighted to kick off the Virtual Voyage and welcome you to Kenya!
As CEO of Aga Khan Hospital in Kisumu, I work closely with AKF to deliver programs to improve the health of women and young children in rural areas. AKF has a long history of partnering with communities in Kenya to improve healthcare, as well as education, agriculture, and more.
The coronavirus has changed a lot for us, but we’re being flexible and adapting to the new challenges that have come up. Notably, AKF has trained healthcare workers and provided medical supplies, including personal protective equipment. AKF is also working with teachers and families to ensure children keep learning, and collaborating with civil society organizations to respond to immediate pandemic-related needs.
We know we have more challenging days ahead. Although this year isn’t what we expected, our vision and goal remain the same – to improve the quality of life for all Kenyans.
Thank you for being a partner in our work. It makes a difference.

Health care
closer to home
Families living in rural areas of Kenya have a hard time getting to a doctor in an emergency—let alone for a routine check up. So the staff at the Kenyenya hospital brings the health care to them. Join this team of dedicated healthcare workers as they load up their supplies in the morning, to the moment they pack it in after a long, rewarding day.
